The Kentucky court system is seeking volunteers to staff its Citizen Foster Care Review Boards in 26 Kentucky counties, including Boone, Kenton and Campbell.
Volunteers would be responsible for reviewing cases of children in the foster care system for signs of abuse, neglect and dependency in order to make informed recommendations about the children’s care and placement.
“It takes a lot of wonderful people to do this meaningful work, and we are greatly in need of more volunteers to join us,” said State Chair of the Citizen Foster Care Review Board Rosalyn Patton-Pelt in a press release.
Volunteers typically work one day a month and must undergo a background check and about six hours of training in order to serve. Kentucky law requires every case to undergo review every six months. In fiscal year 2024, volunteers reviewed 19,565 cases involving 11,301 children in out-of-home care.
