Covington residents can drop off their electronic waste to be recycled at a special event on April 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at BlairTech’s Tech Castle on Boron Drive.

The event, organized in partnership with the city and Keep Covington Beautiful, and the business, will kick off Tech Castle’s year-round recycling service.

“Sustainability has always been at the core of what we do,” BlairTech’s Marketing Director, Laura Blair said in a press release. “If a device cannot be refurbished, repurposed or reused, it is meticulously broken down into categorized components (plastics, metals, etc.) and sent to vetted, certified downstream processors who share our zero-landfill commitment. Our zero-landfill policy means absolutely nothing brought into our facility enters a landfill – ever.

If possible, the devices and electronics dropped off at the event will be refurbished for sale after being locked away and data wiped to government standards. Anything that can’t be refurbished will be recycled. Anyone who drops anything off will also receive a free Tech Castle coupon.

Acceptable items include the following:

  • All computers and computer peripherals (keyboards, monitors, etc.)
  • Servers, routers, modems, cables & power cords, hard drives and RAM
  • Phones and smart devices, including tablets
  • Printers & copiers
  • Video game consoles
  • TVs, VCRs, DVD players and similar accessories (Note: There will be a fee for such devices after the April 5 event)
  • Alkaline batteries (Note: These will also be subject to a fee after the April 5 event)
