The Covington Education Foundation has named Alecia Webb-Edgington, the president of the Life Learning Center and former Kentucky state representative, as its person of the year for 2025.
“I recognize and value the importance of education; it opens doors and opportunities that set the stage for a successful career,” Webb-Edgington said in a press release. “As a resident of Covington, it’s critical for leaders in our community to advance the education ecosystem to give hope to our youth. Education is the foundation of everything; it has to be a priority.”
Webb-Edgington served as the chief information officer for the Kentucky State Police and was the first woman to serve as executive director of the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security. She also served as the representative for the Kentucky House of Representatives 63rd district for five years and has served in advisory roles with the U.S. Department of State, the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement and the private sector.
“If you play the word association game with the name of Alecia Webb-Edington, the word ‘community’ will quickly surface and in her case, it is a state-wide community that she has served but now the Covington community is her first love,” said Covington Education Foundation President Dan Francis in the same release.
An awards ceremony will be held in her honor at Drees Pavillion in Devou Park on June 11 beginning at 6 p.m. Questions about tickets and sponsorship packages should be directed to Janice Krumwiede at janice.krumwiede@covington.kyschools.us or (859)392-1019.
