Heather Mastin, a drama and English teacher at Simon Kenton High School, has been nominated for a National Life Group Foundation Life Changer of the Year award for 2024-2025 after three students nominated her.
“Mastin was nominated by three anonymous students for her encouragement, kindness and fun approach to teaching,” according to a press release from National Life Group. “She inspires students to do their best and stay motivated.”
“She encourages people to do their best and is very understanding and loving,” one student said. Another described her as the “best English teacher.”
The foundation receives nominations for the award from all across the country every year. 17 teachers will eventually be chosen to receive an award, which comes with varying cash prizes, described below:
- 1 Grand Prize winner – $10,000 to share with their school or district
- 4 Grand Prize finalists – $5,000 to share with their school or district.
- 10 LifeChanger Award winners – $3,000 to share with their school or district.
- 1 Spirit Award winner – $5,000 to share with their school or district. This award is given to the nominee whose community demonstrates the most support for their nomination.
- 1 Spotlight Award winner – $5,000 to share with their school or district for teachers in specific subject areas.
