Kentucky Sen. Shelley Funke Frommeyer, a Republican whose district includes parts of Kenton, Campbell and Bracken counties, has filed a resolution in Frankfort to establish a task force that will incorporate aspects of President Donald Trump’s Make American Healthy Again program at the state level.

“Our health is our greatest asset, and it’s time we take bold steps to reclaim it,” said Funke Frommeyer in a press release. “With some of the highest obesity and chronic disease rates in the nation, Kentucky must prioritize nutrition, fitness and smart policies that empower individuals to make healthier choices. The MAHA movement is about giving Kentuckians the tools and freedom to take charge of their well-being, and this task force is a vital step toward a healthier, stronger commonwealth.”

Officially called Kentucky Senate Concurrent Resolution 61, the measure would establish a task force that would focus on the following, according to the senator’s announcement:

  • “encourage dietary and lifestyle changes to reduce chronic diseases”
  • “expand public awareness of healthy nutrition and lifestyles”
  • “reduce public exposure to environmental health risks”
  • “improve public input on state health policies”

If established, the task force will furnish recommendations to the legislature and the governor by Dec. 1.
