The Brent Spence Bridge has reopened hours after police shut down the northbound lanes while searching for a suspect who climbed under the bridge.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet first reported at around 4:45 p.m. the northbound lanes of the bridge were shut down due to a crash.
Covington Police Capt. Justin Bradbury told us a suspect was wanted for a burglary and home invasion that occurred earlier this week. A police pursuit of the suspect ended with the suspect fleeing and climbing under the bridge.
Hours later at around 7 p.m., the Ohio Department of Transportation said all southbound lanes were also closed due to police activity.
Bradbury said the suspect was secured underneath the northbound deck of the bridge at around 8 p.m. Wednesday. Police and fire officials were working to remove him.
At around 8:20 p.m., all lanes were reopened. Police have not told us whether the suspect has been apprehended. However, Bradbury said all lanes would reopen once the suspect was removed from the bridge.
