Florence Mayor Julie Aubuchon gave the oath of office to two new police officers during last week’s council meeting. Austin Messer and Jeffrey Morgan come to the police department with experience in public safety.

A Campbell County High School graduate, Messer has been a firefighter/medic with the Florence Fire Department since 2021.

“Austin decided he wanted to switch careers and try his goal on the law enforcement side. So we’re glad to have Austin join us,” said Police Chief Jeff Mallery.

Jeffrey Morgan, a graduate of Ryle High School, also has first responder experience, Mallery said.

“ Jeff is a member of the Army Reserve, where he serves as a combat medic.” said Mallery. “Jeff has been deployed several times during his military career. Jeff recently worked at the Amazon Urgent Care at CBG as an on site medic representative.”

Both recruits have started the online portion of their training. Once completed, they will head to Richmond, Kentucky, to attend the police academy for 18 weeks. Upon completion, they will begin their positions in the Florence Police Department.

City officials thanked the new recruits as well as their family members who were in attendance at the swearing ceremony.
