EducateNKY, a local educational nonprofit, has donated $81,200 to Covington Independent Public Schools to increase resources for the district’s Family Resource and Youth Services Centers, which help district families overcome various barriers to education.

“We are honored to be recipients of such a wonderful donation, where we can now better meet the needs of the students within the nine different schools,’’ said Dr. Jaren Finney, the district’s assistant superintendent who oversees the operations of the service centers.

The donation is one of several donations totaling $150,000 that will be given to the river city school districts, which include the Bellevue, Newport, Ludlow, Dayton and Southgate Independent districts. EducateNKY CEO Cheye Calvo presented the check at last week’s meeting of the Covington Board of Education.

EducateNKY decided to give the funds after speaking with district superintendents, and each donation amount is based on the number of economically disadvantaged, transient and homeless students in the district. Covington Independent is the largest district among the river city school districts, so it received the largest donation.
