Bellevue City Council candidate Steven Brun was arrested in Bellevue on July 14 for driving under the influence of alcohol, according to court records.

The arresting officer observed Brun’s vehicle fail to come to a complete stop at the intersection of Ward Avenue and Poplar Street, according to the police report. The officer then said in the report they followed the vehicle and observed it swerving to the middle of Ward Avenue and, come back close to the vehicles parked on Ward Avenue, and then conducted a traffic stop at 2:28 a.m.

“I spoke with the above driver, who had thick, slurred speech and glassy eyes,” the police report said. “The above (Brun) had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. I asked the above to submit to standardized field sobriety tests and the above submitted to the tests. The above showed signs of impairment through all phases of the field sobriety tests. At that time, the above admitted to drinking 1 to 2 beers at the Bellevue Vets. The above stated that he did not drink any beer and had Makers (Makers Mark Whiskey). Above arrested.”

Brun is being charged with disregarding a stop sign and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.

He appeared in Campbell County District Court on Friday, July 19, before Judge Erin Sizemore. Sizemore said Brun’s license would be suspended. He has another court appearance on Sept. 11.

Brun previously pled guilty to operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol on Oct. 1, 2021, and was sentenced to pay $425 and serve 30 days (conditional for two years) in jail—meaning he wouldn’t serve those 30 days unless he got in trouble again within the two-year period.

A bench warrant was also filed on July 19 for a probation violation.

LINK nky reached out to Brun for comment but has yet to hear back.
