In celebration of the upcoming Olympic opening ceremonies in Paris, Bellevue is hosting a junior Olympic games event at the Bellevue Beach Park this week.

The event kicks off on July 24 at 5 p.m. with a torch relay for the first 40 attendees. Kids 12 and under can participate in various events such as javelin, track and field, shot put, a cartwheel competition and more. Medals will be awarded to the winners.

The Bellevue Olympics podium will be stationed in Beach Park for photos for the duration of the Olympic games.

“This is an extension of our bucket list encouraging physical fitness in children as an alternative to screen time,” Bellevue Mayor Charlie Cleves said in a press release. “Nothing is more exciting than the variety of sports in the Olympics. We want kids to dream of ascending the podium to receive an Olympic medal.”
