Major asphalt resurfacing project kicks off in Covington this week

An extended asphalt resurfacing project for 32 streets throughout Covington begins this week and will continue over the next few months.

“Over 52,000 square yards of asphalt will be laid 1½ inches thick on the streets as part of two contracts totaling $774,287.15 with Riegler Blacktop Inc. and Eaton Asphalt,” according to a city announcement.

The resurfacing contracts were approved by the city commission last week. Money to pay for the project comes from two external funding sources (i.e. sources not funded with local tax dollars). The Eaton contract will be paid using municipal road aid funds allocated by the state. The Riegler contract will be paid with federal Community Development Block Grant funds. Both Eaton and Riegler submitted the lowest bids for their respective parts of the project.

Signs will be posted warning residents of upcoming work. Residents will also receive notifications in the mail. Parking will be restricted as necessary.

• Bakewell Street, from West 8^th Street to West 9^th Street
• Berry Street, from Banklick Street to Locust Street
• Byrd Street, from Greenup Street to Kendall Street
• Catalpa Street, from East 24^th Street to Madison Avenue
• Delmar Place, from Eastern Avenue to Oakland Avenue
• Frazier Street, from East 33^rd Street to East 32^nd Street
• Garrard Street, from Riverside Drive to East 2^nd Street
• Greer Avenue, from West 7^th Street to West 8^th Street
• Hanser Drive, from Monte Lane to Highland Avenue
• May Street, from West 16^th Street to West 17^th Street.
• Owings Court, from Brandtly Ridge to the cul-de-sac
• Pearl Street, from East 20^th Street to East 18^th Street
• Pleasant Street, from Wheeler Street to Garrard Street
• Russell Street, from West 4^th Street to West 6^th Street
• Scott Boulevard, from Sterrett Avenue to the split
