The Housing Authority of Covington, which is responsible for managing Kenton County’s housing choice voucher, known more commonly as Section 8, program is warning voucher seekers against scammers posing as Section 8 help services.

“A flyer has been circulating on social media advertising assistance with applying for Section 8 funding,” according to a social media announcement from the Housing Authority. “The flyer and website ‘www.govassistance[dot]org’ are NOT legitimate. The scam aims to take advantage of Section 8 applicants to obtain their personal information to facilitate fraudulent activity. There are multiple versions of the above advertisement on various websites, including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, typically with slightly changed verbiage and dates.”

The Housing Authority posted an image of the offending ad, which we’ve displayed below.
