The city of Newport received praise from city officials throughout the state during the recent Kentucky League of Cities Summer Summit.
The 2024 KLC Summer Summit provides an opportunity to explore topics for the advancement and prosperity of Kentucky cities. Newport City Commissioner Mike Radwanski was among the Newport city officials who attended.
“I’m always taken aback by the praise other elected officials share about Newport at the KLC summits I’ve attended,” Radwanski said. “Everyone raves about our tourism and our diverse portfolio of businesses. In just my first term, it’s humbling to be asked advice on code enforcement and other services. My takeaway is we’re really in a great spot. Our reputation has come such a long way.”
Newport Assistant City Manager John Hayden said in his interactions with city officials he had heard a number of positive comments about how the city administers its alcohol beverage control department and the development of a successful initiative to bring together businesses along Third Street that work on common issues, such as the installation of security cameras along the corridor.
“People from other cities are asking about meeting up with us about how they can replicate what we do in their city,” Hayden said. “This is very exciting and a testament to the hard work that all of you have been doing.”
