Juneteenth National Independence Day, known as Juneteenth, celebrates the ending of slavery in the United States annually on June 19, and Northern Kentucky is full of celebrations. Read on to find Juneteenth events throughout the region this weekend and on the holiday.

Friday, June 14

The Juneteenth Career Fair at the Kentucky Career Center in Covington, which is set for 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., will feature over 30 employers. The event is an opportunity for job-seekers to meet employers in person and learn about their job openings. The focus will be on re-entry programs and resources.

Saturday, June 15

The Juneteenth Freedom Day Parade will start at Randolph Park at 10 a.m. on Saturday and culminate in the Juneteenth Day of Celebration at Covington Plaza.

The Black Excellence Awards will then take place plus Juneteenth Bingo, a fashion show (Juneteenth colors only in any style), entertainment, food and drink, Spoken Word, a children’s dance contest, and kids’ activities between noon and 8 p.m. (including a Bounce House, games Kona Ice and face painting). Vendors will also have booths promoting programs, resources and initiatives offering community support.

Sunday, June 16

On Sunday, the celebrations continue with a parade in Elsemer, lineup starts at 10 a.m. at the corner of Dixie Highway and Garvey Avenue.

The parade will end at the First Baptist Church in Elsmere. Participants can enjoy a community workshop service, a cookout, live entertainment plus children’s activities including a bounce house. The event starts a 10 a.m.

Wednesday, June 19

Celebrate Juneteenth with For Family By Family and the city of Florence at their second annual Juneteenth celebration.

Get ready for a day filled with music, art, food, family activities, face painting and more. Throughout the event, indulge in treats from food trucks, plus explore offerings from local businesses and organizations.

The event will be held at the Florence Nature Park and Event Center, 7200 Nature Park Dr., on from noon to 5:30 p.m.
