The City of Wilder amended its annual budget for the upcoming fiscal year at a special meeting on Tuesday.

Specifically, the Wilder City Council was required to hold a special meeting to add material changes to the proposed annual budget that were discussed at the legislative body’s previous meeting on June 3.

“The amendments that were requested were added, those changes were made,” Mayor Valerie Jones said during the meeting. “They are considered a material change and required a special meeting.”

The requested changes included:

  • $15,000 pulled from Capital Carryover to be used as merit pay for administration, fire and police. Each department is set to receive $5,000.
  • Funding for the development of a sewer line on Frederick’s Landing from the Capital Outlay Fund.

“The merit pay was in the general fund; the Capital Fund was the sewer issue because after you all approved the sewer the other night, we had to move money out of credits,” City Manager Terry Vance said.

At the June 3 meeting, the council conducted a first reading to adopt its 2024-2025 fiscal budget. Some of the budgetary priorities discussed included increased funding for fire, police, and public works.

Since the material changes were implemented after the initial first reading, city law required the council to call a special meeting on Tuesday to adopt a new ordinance with the aforementioned changes.

The council will conduct a second reading of the budget ordinance at its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, June 17.
