The Beechwood Independent Public Schools Board of Education recognized the achievements of district students who participated in this year’s Odyssey of the Mind challenge at their meeting Monday.
Odyssey of the Mind is an international competition in which teams of students are given problem scenarios for which they must devise creative, original solutions. Teams compete from all over the world and are assigned scores based on the solutions they present to judges. According to the Odyssey of the Mind website, the program “emphasizes teamwork, budgeting, time management, public speaking and so much more.”
World finals were held at Iowa State University in May. Divisions were split up by age group, and the problem was given to students. One of Beechwood’s Division II teams was the only Kentucky school to score in the top ten, taking ninth place out of 45 teams from all over the world. Team members include Jonah Fait, Carter Mulanda, Kameron Osborn, Olivia Ginter, Clayton Waltz and Abe Wessel. The other Division II team took 11th place out of 37 schools. Students on that team include Connor Hall, Alyssa Day, Nolan Ford, Max Macke, Will Grote and Noah Day.
