Covington will consider a municipal order to separate the budget of the Covington Parking Authority from the rest of the city’s budget at the meeting next Tuesday, June 11. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at Covington City Hall on Pike Street.

Historically, the parking authority’s financials have been included in the rest of the city’s budget, albeit with its own line items. Mayor Joe Meyer said that separating the parking authority’s budget would allow the authority to operate more independently and efficiently.

“One of the downsides of actually including the parking authority budget in the city budget is that if there are any adjustments to this parking authority budget that have to be made, because it’s included in the city’s budget ordinance, the commission would have to approve those budget amendments,” Meyer said at the commission meeting on June 4.
