A slew of last-minute candidate filings that occurred over last week and early this week — the deadline to file was Tuesday, June 4 — have led numerous municipalities and one county-wide elected position to become contested.

Erlanger’s city council and the city commission for Covington were already contested, but now the county’s other county seat, Independence, and several other cities have also become contested. This brings the total number of candidates running in contested races alone to 124.
