Ben Brown, a district veteran of 11 years, was named as the new principal of Holmes High School this week.

“I am excited,’’ Brown said in a press release from the district. “It’s a great opportunity.  The awesome part is being able to work with the students that make up our high school.’’

Brown has held a variety of positions within Covington Independent Public Schools, including substitute teacher, instructional assistant, teacher, security and assistant coach for football, basketball and baseball.

Brown encouraged local businesses and institutions to help in educating local students in the district press release.

“Holmes High School can make a huge difference in students’ lives,’’ Brown said. “I want to encourage teachers to invest in our students. Education opens up doors and provides opportunities.”

Brown lives in Covington with his wife and children. He also serves as pastor at Redemption Church on Ashland Avenue. He holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of the Cumberlands,  a Doctorate in Ministry and Master of Divinity from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Bachelor of Arts  from Thomas More College.

Brown will assume the role of principal from Tony Magner and Angela Turnick, who are currently serving as interim co-principals. He will begin his new role on July 1.
