The Beechwood Independent Schools Board of Education recognized student state champions at their meeting Monday night. Specifically, they honored two state champions in speech and debate and a group of women’s indoor track athletes.

Alex Slone is a 7th-grade student who is currently a state champion in the Kentucky High School Speech League in humorous interpretation. He is the first forensics competitor to go undefeated for a full season.
The board also recognized Joshua Zyzak, a senior state champion in the Congressional Debate. Zyzak did not attend the meeting, but Superintendent Mike Stacy said that Zyzak also got a perfect score on his ACT and has accepted an offer to Harvard.
Finally, the board recognized track athletes: Lily Park, a sophomore state champion in the women’s 1,500-meter middle distance event, and the state champion 4 x 400-meter relay team: Maryah Counts, Lana Holt, Katie Kocan, and Caroline Nordman.
