The Boone County Sheriff’s Office warns folks of a new scammer impersonating one of its sergeants.
They are calling from the number (859) 208-7200. As the department has seen before, the scam is about missing jury duty. However, what’s new is that a Zoom hearing with “Judge Diamond” is required, according to the scammer.
The phone number is in no way affiliated with the sheriff’s office. If you call the number back, you will hear a voicemail saying, “You have reached the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.” That is not true.
A few things to point out according to the sheriff’s office:
- There’s no Judge Diamond in Boone County.
- Their office number sequence is “859-334-XXXX.”
“We appreciate the reports and please keep them coming as we investigate each one of these reports,” the sheriff’s office said via Facebook.
