The Covington City Commission appointed Corey Deye, who currently serves as the deputy fire chief, as interim fire chief at their meeting Tuesday night.
Deye will assume the role on April 1. He takes the helm from Chief Mark Pierce, who announced his retirement last week. Deye has been a member of the force since 2004 and was appointed to the position of battalion chief in September 2021 and then to deputy chief in December of the same year. Deye has a degree in fire service technology from Cincinnati State and helped create the department’s EMS Peer Review program and the Covington Police Department’s SWAT Paramedic Program, among other initiatives.
