The Covington City Commission heard recommendations for both a traffic impact study and an archeological study, both of which are legally mandated, for the Central Riverfront development, located at the former IRS site in Covington, at their meeting Tuesday night.

The projects are legally mandated to ensure the proposed traffic infrastructure can handle the expected traffic burden and to ensure that the development will not destroy any historical artifacts that might be uncovered during the development, respectively.

Both projects will be paid out of the city’s bond funding, not through tax dollars, and represent another step toward the fruition of the development. The measures were placed on the consent agenda for next week, meaning they’re likely to pass at the legislative meeting on Feb. 27.
