Fort Mitchell approved an ordinance updating the city’s bicycle, motorcycle and scooter laws. The updated language accounts for what city officials called the dangers unique to e-scooters and e-bicycles.
This ordinance has been in the works since late 2023, and council discussed the particulars with city attorney Olivia Amlung over several meetings. Amlung revised the ordinance’s wording to be clearer and concise, including removing mentions of “play streets,” which the council deemed an obsolete label.
Council unanimously approved the final version presented at their February meeting. The city began its educational campaign on e-scooter and e-bike safety before the winter holidays and increased its efforts when school started back up. The city’s Facebook page offers a scooter safety tip every Tuesday. City officials said they have received a lot of positive feedback from the community on these education efforts.
