The city of Elsmere welcomed Katie Hehman as its new city clerk at the city council’s Feb. 6 caucus meeting.
While Hehman was originally hired as deputy clerk, Misty Ezell, who previously held the position, resigned to relocate with her family to South Carolina.
Council unanimously decided Hehman should fill the city clerk vacancy at Tuesday’s meeting.
The decision, Mayor Marty Lenhof said, was not a difficult one, even though 68 people applied for the vacant position after Ezell left the role.
“I think we were blessed that Katie applied for this job because of the 68 people that applied, none of them were certified clerks,” Lenhof said, adding that very few of the applicants hold jobs in city governments.
City Administrator Michael Barlett revised the job description for the hiring process. Hehman was previously clerk and treasurer for Lakeside Park, where she left in May 2022.
