The Alexandria City Council has made appointments and reappointments to its planning and zoning commission, board of ethics and board of adjustments.
Terms begin in January and end on Dec. 31 of the member’s last year.
“I can’t thank the people who step up every year to help with the city,” Alexandria Mayor Andy Schabell said. “All of these people are good citizens and hard workers and take their time to make Alexandria even better.
Planning and zoning commission
According to the city, the planning commission aims to regulate planning, zoning and other development-related issues. The duties of the Alexandria Planning Commission involve formulating and administrating the city’s comprehensive plan, subdivision regulations, and zoning ordinance. In addition, the commission reviews development proposals, zone change requests and subdivision plats.
Planning and zoning members serve four-year terms.
The council reappointed Sonny Markus and Michele Nelson to the commission.
The other board members and their terms are:
- Chair Nick Reitman: 2022-2025
- Randy Nehus: 2022-2025
- Sam Ruebusch: 2021-2024
- Adam Lisowsky: 2021-2024
- Derek Moore: 2023-2026
Board of ethics
The purpose of the board of ethics, according to the city, is to ensure the operations of city government manifest the highest moral and ethical standards among its officers and employees and desire to comply with all commonwealth’s local government ethics law requirements.
Board of ethics members serve three-year terms. Alternate members serve one-year terms.
The council appointed Dave Downing and Jena Quinn-Sexton.
The council reappointed Brett Ruschman as an alternate.

Board of adjustments
The purpose of the board of adjustments, according to the city, is to authorize variances from the terms of an ordinance that will not adversely affect the public health, safety, or welfare, will not alter the character of the general vicinity, nor cause a hazard or nuisance to the public.
Some duties include granting conditional use permits as specified in the zoning ordinance and deciding upon applications to convert or change an existing non-conforming use to another non-conforming use.
Board of adjustment members serve four-year terms.
The council appointed Steve Minshall to the board.
The other board members and their terms are:

- Louis Vogelpohl: 2021-2024
The city council is expected to have more board appointments, including for code enforcement, at a future meeting.
