Three members of the Independence Police Department–Josh Salyers, Matthew Fassler and George Kreutzjans–were promoted to the rank of sergeant at the Independence City Council meeting Monday night.

“As we have these recognitions, we talk about our police department, talk about the great work they do and everything else,” said Independence Mayor Chris Reinersman. “That’s no exaggeration; that isn’t hyperbole.”

Kreutzjans will be the department’s first detective sergeant. Fassler is an army reservist and a veteran of the Northern Kentucky Drug Strike Force. Salyers is a 10-year veteran of the department and was the city’s first canine officer.
