The Housing Authority of Covington announced this week that Golden Tower, one of the authority’s public housing apartment complexes, had regained status as a senior living facility from the federal government.
“We got it all squared away,” Housing Authority Executive Director Steve Arlinghaus said. “We’re back to our normal senior status again.”
The apartment complex is one of eight properties owned and operated by the housing authority. The 14-story complex was constructed in the late 1960s and has catered to elderly residents aged 55 and older for years. It even has special medical facilities in the building to aid with the residents’ age-related healthcare needs.
Federal authorities had denied the building’s status earlier this year, a decision Arlinghaus had attributed to a misunderstanding on the part of federal administrators who were not familiar with the property. The housing authority had spent the latter months of the year shoring up its management documents and reapplying to HUD.
The authority also announced this week that HUD had affirmed the senior status of Academy Flats, another housing authority property.
