Two people are dead after an incident at a sanitation facility in Bromley Thursday afternoon, Park Hills Police said.

Police responded to the SD1 site on Steve Tanner Street just before noon Thursday for a reported drowning. A preliminary investigation found three employees were working on a project when some kind of failure occurred, entrapping them.

One person was accounted for and taken to a nearby hospital by family members. Emergency crews searching for the two remaining employees recovered one body just after 6 p.m. By midnight, police said they’d recovered the second worker’s body.

Police said Allied Technical Services, a Cincinnati-based contractor that offers underwater services, was brought in to conduct the search.

Police said the three people were employed by Building Crafts, Inc., a contractor based in Wilder, Ky.

“Building Crafts, Inc expresses its deepest condolences to the loved ones of our two co-workers who lost their lives in today’s tragic accident,” the company said in a statement. “We are cooperating fully with the authorities and first responders investigating the incident. Additional details may be released as information becomes available. We ask that the media and the public please respect the privacy of the workers’ families during this extremely difficult time.”

River Road, Main Street and Pike Street in Bromley remain closed as emergency crews work, police said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are extended to the family, workers, emergency response personnel, and all involved in this tragedy,” Park Hills police said in a release.
