“They’re at it again,” said a recent press release from the Kenton County Sheriff’s Office. Residents have been receiving calls claiming that people have missed jury duty and that they must pay a fine over the phone.

“Law enforcement agencies will not call, text or message you that there is a warrant for your arrest, that you missed jury duty or that there is any type of civil service needing your attention,” the announcement said. “Law enforcement will not offer you the ability to pay a fine or warrant fee over the phone. Your first clue it is a scam–a request for payment!”

The sheriff advises anyone who receives such a call to hang up and contact the agency’s main listed number for good measure. Report scams to the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office of Consumer Protection by calling 888-432-9257.
