Police have arrested a juvenile suspect in connection with an incident at Boone County High School that resulted in a three-vehicle crash, per the Florence Police Department.

At 2:50 p.m., officers responded to a Boone County High School report of a male with a weapon on school grounds, according to a media release. 

Police said they were told the subject entered the parking lot after school and displayed a handgun.

When they got to the scene, officers said they observed the suspect’s vehicle, a silver Nissan Altima, driving through the school parking lot and exiting onto westbound KY 18 at a high rate of speed. 

Before officers could locate the vehicle, it was involved in the crash, where the juvenile suspect was taken into custody with a handgun in his possession, police said. 

The juvenile suspect was charged with the following:

  • Unlawful possession of a weapon on school property
  • Possession of a handgun by a minor – second degree or greater offense
  • Disorderly conduct – second degree
  • Menacing
  • Wanton endangerment first degree – three counts
  • Assault – fourth degree (minor injury)
  • Possession of marijuana
  • No operator’s license
  • Failure of non-owner to maintain insurance

The suspect was transported to Campbell County Juvenile Detention Center and transferred to Fayette County Juvenile Detention Center.

An investigation determined there were no threats made, and officers said the situation appears to be an isolated incident.
