In conjunction with National Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 8 – 14) the Northern Kentucky Health Department is encouraging households to develop escape plans in the event of a fire.

If a fire breaks out in a home, occupants could have less than two minutes to get out safely once the smoke alarm sounds, officials said.

Escape planning tips include:

  • Make a home escape plan for every level of the home and be sure to include all doors and windows.
  • Draw a map of each level of the home show two ways out of each room and discuss the plan with everyone in the home.
  • Designate a place outside to meet, ensuring a safe distance from the home clearly visible to first responders and emergency medical personnel.
