Construction of the Boone County Library’s Walton branch is progressing on schedule, officials said.

“They started pouring the first layer of the parking lot today,” Boone County Library Director Carrie Herrmann said during Monday’s Boone County Library Board of Trustees meeting. “And we are refining plans for preparing the collection to move over to the new building.”

The 25,000-square-foot venue located at 1300 Towne Center Drive is slated for an anticipated September 2024 opening, rests on 5.6 acres and will replace the present 6,000-square-foot site at 21 S. Main St., officials said.

The $12.5 million facility will include a creative maker’s space for the public, an area to hold cooking and fitness classes and an outdoor area for events, Herrman previously told LINK nky.

“I had an opportunity to visit the Walton location last week with Carrie,” Boone County Library Board of Trustees President Barbara Hill said. “You can now walk in and see rooms and where the fireplace is going to be. It looks great and they’re right on schedule.”

A considerable amount of the construction will be completed by June 27, 2024, but library personnel will need time to get materials from the former site to the new location, Herrmann said.

“We think it’s going to take us a couple of months, so a September opening is what we’re looking at,” Herrmann said.
