The City of Covington has chosen Steve Hayden to fill the vacant seat in the city’s board of commissioners. Hayden will begin his tenure as the new commission member on Sept. 5., where he will join the other four members of the local legislative body.

Hayden will occupy the position left by former Commissioner Nolan Nicaise, who resigned unexpectedly early in August. Hayden will serve as a board member until Dec. 31, 2024, at which point he can either step down from the position or run for election.

Hayden is a frequent attendee at public meetings and is active in several other community organizations, including the Covington Neighborhood Collaborative and Devou Park Advisory Committee. He was one of 29 people who submitted their names for consideration.

“Mr. Hayden has probably been to every commission meeting that most of us have been to in the past three years, and that’s appreciated,” said Commissioner Shannon Smith in a recent press release from the city. “I think he will quickly get acclimated to the position.”
