The Florence City Council has approved an ordinance designed to encourage community investment through building upgrades, officials said.
The recently passed ordinance establishes the Florence Business Building Façade Upgrades Grant Program, which encourages the rehabilitation and enhancement of buildings to promote economic growth and seeks to improve the city’s long-term viability within designated areas of the city, officials said.
“This is the first incentive the city council has ever passed that is not based on payroll taxes – it’s based off of direct investment back into the property,” Florence Business and Community Development Director Josh Hunt said. “And it falls right in line with what the council had voted on and asked for on the east side of town.”
