Boone County sand and gravel firm Northern Kentucky Aggregates is a step closer to expanding its existing operations.

The Boone County Planning Commission advanced the company’s requested zoning change during Wednesday’s business meeting.

The panel considered the company’s request for a zoning map amendment from rural suburban to industrial three surface mining for an area located at 3989 Belleview Road.

“I would like to thank the planning commission and the committee for all of its hard work in considering the request,” Northern Kentucky Aggregates President Dennis Garrison said. “It’s the expansion of an existing operation and all of our production facilities and truck traffic will stay exactly where it’s at.”

Northern Kentucky Aggregates has operated its existing sand and gravel mining operations on Belleview Road since 1967 and has been actively supplying sand and gravel to construction, road and industrial projects in the Northern Kentucky area for almost 50 years, the Northern Kentucky Aggregates application addendum noted.

Property owners near the site expressed concerns about water supply safety, noise, health impacts and large truck traffic during a June public hearing focusing on the company’s zoning request.

The action taken by the Boone County Planning Commission regarding the requested zoning change will now be forwarded to the Boone County Fiscal Court for consideration, the commission noted.
