The Campbell County Fiscal Court is holding public hearings for the proposed 2023 real property tax rate.
The 2022 real property tax rate is 17.10 cents per $100 of valuation, and the proposed 2023 real property tax rate is lowered to 16.70 cents per $100 of valuation.
Real property consists of land and any permanent structures on that land. Real property taxes are assessed on agricultural, commercial, industrial, residential, and utility property.Â
The fiscal court held the first public hearing at its Aug. 2 meeting, which was held in Alexandria at 9 a.m. No members of the public spoke.
According to Campbell County Fiscal Court Finance Director/Treasurer Laura Lewis, they will hold another hearing at their next meeting on Aug. 16 at the Campbell County Administration building at 5:30 p.m., allowing people to speak in both Alexandria and Newport in morning and evening meetings.
