The completion of a sidewalk project along Dublin Drive and Dublin Place in Union will hopefully ease traffic in the area, a Boone County commissioner told LINK nky.

“Dublin Drive is still a really pretty little area of Union,” Commissioner Cathy Flaig said. “People slow down when they see sidewalks and they see people out and about. I really think sidewalks just add so much to the area.”

The sidewalk, at a total of 2,800 feet, will also complete a walking corridor between Mt. Zion Road and Frogtown Road, Boone County Assistant County Administrator/County Engineer Rob Franxman said.

The county approved a contract with HW Lochner in February for the project’s planning and construction, whose estimated completion date is the summer of 2024.

“The sidewalk itself will sit on county right-of-way,” Franxman said. “These are small areas that need to be accessed for the construction. You’re talking slivers to maybe eight feet wide across some areas of front yards.”

In order to move forward with the project, 18 easements were approved. Easements are when the land title remains with the landowner, but another individual or entity is given the right to use that land for a distinct purpose.

The value of all 18 of the parcels — determined based on a review process through the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet — is $5,875 combined, Franxman said.

Lochner will now acquire the easements and begin contacting property owners.
