A new sidewalk along Frogtown Connector Road is in Boone County’s future.

During Tuesday’s regular session, the Boone County Fiscal Court approved an agreement with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet that clears the way to partially finance the project with grant funding.

“This agreement with KYTC is simply the mechanism by which the county will be reimbursed up to $400,000 for construction of the sidewalk,” Boone County Assistant County Administrator/County Engineer Rob Franxman said, adding once the agreement is fully executed, the project will be advertised for bid.

The county was awarded federal Transportation Alternatives Funding for the project in 2021, the expected completion date is June 1, 2024, and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is serving as the grant administrator, Franxman said.

“The project will complete a sidewalk from Richwood Road to Frogtown Road and the grant covers 80 percent of the project costs,” Franxman said.

The Frogtown Connector Road sidewalk project will mesh with the Richwood Road interchange project, Boone County Judge/Executive Gary W. Moore said.

“When I drive through there and see the new businesses popping up all along that route, it’s great timing,” Boone County Judge/Executive Gary W. Moore said. “It’ll tie in quite nicely.”
