In the wake of anticipated heavy boat traffic this weekend, with several events occurring along the Cincinnati Riverfront, Boone County Water Rescue encourages boaters to heighten proactive safety measures.
Authorities are urging boaters to check their vessel’s safety devices and ensure that all onboard occupants have a life jacket. Additionally, Boone County Water Rescue maintains boaters must keep the river channel clear as barge traffic has the right of way.
Boaters are also encouraged to anchor on the Kentucky side of the Ohio River on Friday while keeping the mouth of the Licking River and B&B Riverboats clear. A fireworks display will take place near Great American Ballpark on Friday evening and boaters must remain outside of the 500-foot safety zone extending from the Ohio Bank to the fireworks barge.
Vessels in violation of the safety zone will be moved by law enforcement, per authorities. Boaters requiring assistance should contact the Boone County Public Safety Communications Center at 859-371-1234, or by using Marine Channel 13 or 16. For emergencies, dial 911.
