The Northern Kentucky Health Department and the Walgreens on Madison Avenue in Covington will provide free HIV testing this Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in honor of National HIV Testing Day, which officially falls on June 27, according to a recent press release from the health department.
All testing is anonymous and confidential, and patients will receive their test results during their visit.
“Approximately 1.2 million people in the United States are living with HIV, according to the Center for Disease Control, although roughly 13% of those people aren’t even aware they are infected,” the health department’s statement read.
It goes on to say that the only way to know for sure if one is infected is to get tested.
“Once someone is aware he/she is HIV positive, preventative action can be taken that allows them to live long and healthy lives, while also preventing the transmission of the disease to others,” the press release also stated.
The health department will help connect patients who test positive during the event to resources in the area.
