A community outreach and resource organization in Florence is hosting their first Juneteenth celebration event in conjunction with the City of Florence.
The event will kick off with a proclamation ceremony at the First Baptist Church of Florence before carrying over to Stringtown Park at noon. Scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, June 19, the event will have music and cuisine from different cultural backgrounds, activities for families and business/nonprofit resource stations.
The proclamation ceremony will grant a historical marker to the First Baptist Church of Florence, a historic Black church which had an active congregation for over 100 years. The church was founded in 1870 by the Trustees of the Colored Baptist Association.
“You can utilize and take a lot way from this year’s Juneteenth celebration. We want to expose the community to the resources that are available and the advocates who fight every day for the needs of the people,” said Dashai Thompson, program assistant for talent strategies and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at the NKY Chamber of Commerce. “For Family By Family recognizes that Community resources are essential in helping people access assistance and expand their range of outlets of support to meet their needs.”
