The city of Florence has named the week of May 14 through May 20 National Police Week.
At Tuesday’s special meeting, Florence Mayor Julie Metzger Aubuchon read a proclamation to recognize the police department and said she publicly salutes the service of law enforcement officers in the community.
“In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day, and the calendar week in which May 15 Falls is National Police Week in honor of those law enforcement officers who do their courageous deeds and have made the ultimate sacrifice and service to their community or have become disabled in the performance of duty,” Metzger Aubuchon read from the proclamation.
