DHL Express ramp and tug workers at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport have voted to join the Teamsters Local 100 labor union.
CVG Airport serves as the global hub of DHL Express. The logistics and shipping company employs over 3,000 hourly workers at the airport. Approximately 1,100 of those workers participated in the vote.
“This was a long time coming,” said Steve Fightmaster, a ramp lead and DHL Workers United for Change committee member. “We stood strong to become Teamsters and changed over 1,000 people’s lives for the better.”
Negotiations for the DHL-CVG workers’ first Teamster contract will commence following the certification of the the election by the National Labor Relations Board, according to a press release from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
“Today (April 28), DHL Express workers made the decision to join the most powerful union in the world. These new Teamsters showed courage and conviction in their organizing drive and we couldn’t be more honored to welcome and protect them,” said Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien. “Whether it’s at DHL, Amazon, or UPS, Teamsters never stop in our fight to hold corporations accountable and to get the best contracts for our members.”
In March, DHL employees held multiple public demonstrations outside the company’s Northern Kentucky headquarters where they called on upper management to stop interfering in their organizing efforts.
