Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell has been hospitalized after a fall at the Waldorf Astoria in the nation’s capital.

The details of McConnell’s condition are unknown, and it’s unclear how long he’ll stay in the hospital — or how long he’ll be away from the Senate.

“This evening, Leader McConnell tripped at a local hotel during a private dinner. He has been admitted to the hospital where he is receiving treatment,” said McConnell’s spokesperson David Popp.

Kentucky’s senior senator also fell at home in 2019, where he suffered a shoulder fracture that required surgery. McConnell is 81 years old.

McConnell became the longest-serving Senate leader in history this January. He was first elected to Congress in 1984.
