The city of Florence has decided to extend the city’s solid waste contract with Rumpke for two more years.
At Tuesday’s Florence City Council meeting, Mayor Julie Metzger Aubuchon requested a motion to allow her to provide written a notice extending the city’s solid waste contract with Rumpke for two years beginning on April 1.
The solid waste contract was re-bid in 2018, which resulted in the current contract with Rumpke.
The term was two years with four optional two-year extensions. The first extension was authorized in 2021, and the current two-year contract period expires on March 31, 2023.
The residential waste collection rate will increase from $6.30 per month to $6.62.
The residential recycling rate will increase from $4.20 per month to $4.41.
Florence still has the lowest trash and recycling rates in the area compared to Erlanger, Covington and Newport.
The extension was approved by Councilmember Wingo and seconded by Councilmember Carroll.
