Read Ready Covington, a city-wide program to increase child literacy rates, will begin its reading challenge this week.

The program runs from March 1 to April 12. It challenges early childhood students to read as many books as possible and answer comprehension questions on two freely-available smart device apps that track their progress.

Every student who participates will have their name entered into weekly raffle prize drawings. The program will award five students per week, and the winners’ teachers will also earn prizes.

Students aged 3 through third grade enrolled in either a childcare or schooling program in Covington are eligible for free use of the two apps associated with the reading challenge, Foot2Brilliance and Clever Kids University.

Read Ready Covington is an initiative to increase child literacy rates among city families and to teach the love of reading and learning at an early age.

“Children build stronger skills and positive attitudes about learning with the encouragement and participation of their families,” said a press release from the City of Covington.
