Emauryon Arnold, a senior heavyweight wrestler at Holmes High School in Covington, finished fourth at the Kentucky High School Athletic Association’s state wrestling championships Saturday.
His performance brought him to a record of 54-8, the highest number of wins for a wrestler at Holmes in a single season and the highest a student has placed in the state championships since 1993, per an announcement on the school district’s social media pages.
Arnold performed well in the weekend’s tournament, winning at least one match on Friday and then three matches in a row on Saturday. He lost in double overtime, finally placing in fourth.
Arnold has a 3.0 GPA and plans to attend Thomas More University next year, for which he has already signed a letter of intent to play football, according to the district’s statement.
