SYGMA Kentucky recently unveiled its brand new 330,000-square-foot food distribution facility in Burlington — the company’s first in commonwealth of Kentucky.
Sysco subsidiary SYGMA is a food service provider and distributor that specializes in serving large chain restaurants throughout the United States. The facility is SYGMA’s fifteenth distribution center in the country.
Located at 1725 Lakeland Park, the company believes the facility will help them meet the demands of the growing market.
Besides being one of the company’s largest sites to date, the new facility is projected to bring more than 300 high-paying jobs to Boone County by 2025, with an average estimated annual wage of $80,000, according to a Northern Kentucky Tri-ED press release.
Kentucky has experienced job growth in the transportation and logistics sectors over the past decade, with Northern Kentucky being a key driver behind that growth. Northern Kentucky’s close proximity to other midwestern metropolitan population centers makes it a desirable location for companies in the transportation and logistics sector.
“SYGMA’s new facility, only a one-day drive to more than half of the U.S. population, will enable the company to launch service to the Midwest’s high-growth markets,” said Tri-ED President Lee Crume. “The growth of the transportation and logistics (T&L) industry cluster in Northern Kentucky from 2015 – 2020 helped the region be the leader in job creation in the commonwealth.”
For Boone County, the new facility will complement the county’s upward population and economic growth trends, something Judge/Executive Gary Moore highlighted during the facility’s ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“As Boone County continues its strong population growth trajectory, companies like SYGMA play an important role in foodservice for the restaurants serving our community,” Moore said. “We welcome SYGMA’s new location and the hundreds of new jobs it’s bringing to the region.”
