The Fort Thomas Fire Department has named a new firefighter who is walking in the footsteps of his father.
After the retirement of Capt. Rick Daugherty in September, the Fort Thomas Fire Department filled his position and others by promoting from within, bringing firefighters up through the ranks. Ultimately, this left an opening for a new fire department member.
At the November Fort Thomas City Council meeting, Chief Chris Amon introduced firefighter paramedic Cody Krentz and gave him his badge.
Krentz comes to the Fort Thomas Fire Department from the Newport Fire Department where he has worked as a firefighter paramedic for more than nine years. Prior to this, he worked for Fort Mitchell for a year, and before that he was a fire service volunteer.
“Cody is a legacy for the Fort Thomas Fire Department,” said Amon. “His father served in the department; he [Curtis Krentz] was actually there when I started in 1999 … Cody is a firefighter paramedic who comes to us with a great deal of experience and a lot of recommendations, and we are really happy to have him.”
The chief noted that both Krentz and his brother Casey Krentz, who is also in fire service, are graduates of Fort Thomas schools. Krentz will be Badge No. 1, and he’s assigned to day shift. His wife, Brooke, pinned on his badge.
Krentz introduced his family, his wife, son Grant and daughter Reese, his mother Kimberly, extended family and friends who were all on hand for the badge pinning.
“Thank you for the opportunity. I appreciate it, and I’m proud to serve in my community,” he said.
The mayor and council congratulated Krentz and welcomed him to the department.
